Once again, Renault is the official partner of the Marrakech International Film Festival, which runs until 8 December. The festival’s twelfth edition pays particular homage to Indian cinema, with many films being screened in the town’s Jemaâ el Fna square, not to mention the presence of superstar Shahrukh Khan (Don, Veer-Zaara), whose rapturous reception demonstrated his extraordinary popularity among the Moroccan audience.
In its competitive section, the festival as usual focuses on young directors from all over the map. The jury, presided over by John Boorman, will judge 15 films including The Attack by Franco-Belgian director Ziad Doueiri, Samuel Collardey’s Little Lion and Carlos Sorin’s Gone Fishing.
Outside the competition, numerous films should also attract attention: Thy Womb by the Philippine director Brillante Mendoza, David O’Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook, Zhang Yimou’s The Flowers of War and Bahman Ghobadi’s Rhino Season, to name but a few. France is represented by Valérie Donzelli’s new work Hand in Hand, which follows the success of her Declaration of War, as well as by Jean-Pierre Améris’s The Man Who Laughs.
As official transporter, Renault has provided a fleet of Latitudes to escort actors and directors, among them Isabelle Huppert, Jonathan Demme, James Gray and Gemma Arterton, to the red carpet.
